Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is one of the fastest growing watersports in the world. It involves standing on a board on the water then using a single-bladed paddle to propel yourself along.
If you’re wondering about needing to be a certain age or having a certain budget to paddleboard, we’re telling you here – anyone can paddleboard. It may take some time to learn, but with a few good techniques, safety tips, and a bit of balance and co-ordination, you’ll be out on the water soon with family, friends, or your local SUP group.
And, once you get the hang of it, you can go paddling almost anywhere - rivers*, canals, lakes, reservoirs, or beaches. So, go out there and make the most out of your HIKS paddleboard!

Deciding which board to get can be a bit overwhelming, especially when there are so many paddleboards out there to choose from. Here are some key considerations for you to help choose the right board:
Your height and weight
What is your height and weight?
Where will you be paddleboarding?
Will you be paddling with someone else or a pet on the board?
What kind of equipment will you be bringing with you on the board?
These are just some of the questions our team asks when you reach out to us via phone or email. This is because board recommendations change depending on your answers to these questions.
If you’re the type to bring your pets, kids, or heavy equipment with you, then you will definitely need a board that can carry the weight of everyone or everything on the paddleboard while also accommodating your height.
One thing to know is that you can never be too light for a paddleboard. So long as you or the combined weight of everyone or everything on the paddleboard is within the recommended weight or under it, then it’s the right board for you!

Board Size and Shape
Make sure to choose a board with the right size and shape suitable to your specific needs.
If you’re a beginner, then you should definitely go for an all-round paddleboard such as our 10’6” SUPS, which are 76cm or 29.9” wide. These are lightweight to carry, and small but wide enough for different manoeuvres on the water, all the while providing you with comfort and stability. Perfect for paddleboarders of all skill levels!
On the other hand, if you’ve been paddleboarding for some time and want to advance, then go for a longer or narrower board since it moves faster in the water. They’re also easier to manoeuvre.
If you’re planning to do some fitness and stability exercises such as yoga, then choose a wider board with more than enough space to accommodate lots of movement.
